surf & turf
Spent a lovely weekend up the west coast with two good friends. We dived, took photos, surfed a bit but most importantly we chilled hard. Epic times, some funny footage for a lifestyle edit that I will make tomorrow hopefully.
I love it up there. Even though we didn't get the best waves. Good times!

caves, my old friend
It scares me. The sharks aren't leaving and it scares me. Caves is a second home to most of us. We practically live there in the summers. We even sleep there. I have surfed it alone many a time. Surfed till way after dark many a time. Surfed before the sun was up many a time. And all of this while feeling safe. A feeling of safety that was built up over 6 years. Now we start at square one again.
I am scared that what we had we might not get it back. Not all of it atleast. We had a meeting with the local shark spotting organization this evening discussing the possibility of shark spotters at koeel bay caves. As promising as it seems it will probably still not allow me to experience that feeling of safety I used to have.

the mountain man
This weekend I did not surf at all. It was a bit of an emotional weekend. Happy times celebrating, sad times reminiscing.
Today, after waking up from my hibernation-type sleep my brother and myself went for a hike up helderberg mountain. It's quite a hike with a really amazing view from up top and super stoked I did it. It helped clear my mind.
Here are some gopro photos from the quest.
Not yet at the summit, what a view though
At the top, can see the whole helderberg basin from up here
Steeper up there than we expected

Warrior!
Today was the David Lilienfeld paddle out in celebration of his life. The turn out was amazing with hundreds of people turning up to celebrate the life of a legend.
The whole paddle out was conducted very well and I am very happy to have been part of it. I have the highest of respects for Davids brother, Gustav Lilienfeld for being able to give such a good speach today, his dad aswell.
I filmed quite a bit of the service with my GoPro and would like to make a edit in memory of David and the paddle it.
May he rest in peace.

where the streets have no name
This weekend was boring. So boring, I would even go as far as to say it very boring, indeed.
Nevertheless todays barrels made up for it. Got a fair amount of surfing done and was stoked to surf some bigger waves again.
All of the land photos from the reef on my blog were taken by my sister, Cara Cabano and the other few I took myself.
Hope you enjoy the weekly stokage dosage.
Francois and I braved the paddle
The foamies were large
The barrels were wide
RIP turbo 5 ltd. Allan riding his board before it was taken
Werner big wave riding
Werner on a sick insider
Myself on a pearler
Trippy barrel shot at main beach
Sick left at betties
Post-surf grommet froth

rafiki
Spent family day today getting some waves, there is a nice little edit from my session at pipe this morning on facebook at this place : http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10150726752132416
Once I moved back into my room in stellenbosch, Jandre, Armand and myself headed into the mountains and witnessed one of the maddest waterfalls I have seen, let alone stand in. It must be about atleast and 100m drop.

tribute
My friend, my brother, Mafoos just won a substantial amount of cash money (20k) at the 2012 Kumba Iron ore west coast classic!
I have known the lad since the tender age of 10, we went to school together, we played rugby together, we even started bodyboarding together.
We started surfing boland together and, up until recently when I started studying, pushed each other each time we surfed together. Now look where he his!
Im proud of the oke!

ice ice baby
After an steaming hot week on the orange river and my first surf is in 12 degree water. It was icy cold, very shallow and good fun!
Spent quite a bit of time in the channel taking photos and got some pretty nice photos. This little Gopro surprises me more each time.
Marius most probably mind surfing this one hard
Marius in a bit of a barrel
Marius on a more sizeable one
Chandre on a dredger
Dredger
Beyers on a sick insider close to the rock
Myself in a bit of a barrel
One of my favorite shots
This gives you a slightly better perspective on how shallow it was
Tomas tucking in
Looks like a postcard
Andre-Hugo with a sick little flip
Crouching tiger hidden Chandre
Flaring lip
Quite an abstract angle
